1990 Preview
March 31st 1990 - Two huge names have cashed in in the latest round of free-ageny madness in the EBL.
Malcolm Kennedy has signed with home-town club the Dublin Wolfpack. The 3 time WL Pitcher of the Year and #1 overall pick in the inaugural EBL draft spent 9 years in Paris and will earn $13.5M over 4 years in his native Ireland.
Athens spent even more than Dublin ($16.5M over 4 years) to bring Philippe Martin to Greece from the Milan Mud Cats. Martin remains the only man to ever win an EBL Triple Crown and his new club will be hoping he can produce something similar in the WL.
The biggest contract (at least in total money) was given to Igoryok Vishipanov who joined the Hamburg Heat for $18.5M over 7 years.
Two time reinging WL champions the Lisbon Renegades have lost one of the key members of their rotation in Roque Vilardeb, who has joined dvision rivals Madrid.
The trade market was slightly quieter. Two interesting names were Jamel Baud who has gone to Moscow and Claudio Lwenholm who has been traded back to Amsterdam after only hitting .270 with 9 home runs in his one season in Hamburg.
