October 1, 1875
The Philadelphia Athletics appear to have put the 1875 NA championship out of reach. With just one month to play, the team has extended their lead to 9 games over the Atlantics, with no other team in a position to make a challenge. Starter Joe Gotcher successfully put his name in the record books during September when he won his record breaking 30th game on September 11th. The win came at home against New York in a game that Gotcher went the distance and allowed just 1 run on 7 hits. He failed to walk a batter, and struck out two.
