Paris will do this to teams. Down 5-2 after 3, Chicago Defenders manager Stephano Verrochio took the bold move of relieving starting pitcher Cats Evans for a pinch-hitter. In one sense, this move didn't really backfire since the Revolution had already scored all the runs they would need to win this one. On the other hand, the guys who came in to relieve him yielded 11 runs in the last 5 innings. The series travels to Chicago now, where it could end without going back to Paris.

Chicago thought for sure that they finally had Joel Lemoine stopped. They had a 3-1 lead going into the 9th and starter Juan Zorros had completely shut down the Revolution, surrenduring just 6 hits through his first 8 innings. But let Paris glimpse just a sign of weakness and they will pounce. Rene Payen and pinch-hitter Michel Granger laid into Zorros' slowing fastball for two base hits in 3 pitches, then catcher Laurent Garnier came to the plate. Garnier - who spent all of 1919 as a member of the US Army Baseball Engineers as part of a lending agreement - swung his way into an 0-2 count, then fouled off 4 pitches and worked the count to 2-2. On the 9th pitch of the at-bat, he squirted a seeing-eye single between first and second to tie the game at 3 apiece. 2 batters later, Gilbert Perrin socked in the go-ahead run on a double.
Following this demoralizing loss, we can't see Chicago winning another game, let alone the Series. Nonetheless, it continues tomorrow.

Facing a sweep in the most important games of the year, the Chicago Defenders made the bold move of replacing their #2 starter Daryl "Cats" Evans with Pedro Ruiz. Ruiz was no slouch himself in the regular season and had outpitched "Cats" in the playoffs. For 8 innings, it looked like this gamble had paid off. But in the 9th the Revolutions saw their opening and struck. Ruiz was hammered for a single, a sacrifice, a double, a ground-out, a walk, a single, and two more walks, the last with the bases loaded.
And that was all she wrote. Praise be to the Paris Revolution and their Reign of Terror lineup. 1920 is over!
