1992 Preview

March 31st 1992 - The reigning champs have been dismantled to a degree over the offseason. Urs Kimmel, who was the star of Game 7, with 3 homers, has left in free agency (joining the Amsterdam Selects for $27.5M over 6 years). They have also lost Arsen Pentzopoulos and Ian Meoni in trades. It will be interesting to see if they can challenge to defend their title.

The Sofia Sting spent a lot of money in free-agency, bringing in veteran 1B Lukas Stoger and re-signing their own veteran star, Jacquy Gilbert. The other big contract was for Samuel Polach, who might threaten to break the stragnlehold of Thomas Meinert and Kaspar Ahlmann on the EL Homegrown Player of the Year award, after joining Budapest for $37.2M over 7 seasons.

With the loss of Stoger, the Paris Cyclones should be weaker this season. Maybe it is time for a team other than they and the Lisbon Renegades to represent the EL in the European League Series.
