Royal Canadian Mounted Baseballists

Overview

That didn't end the way we'd planned it. The Royal Canadian Mounted Baseballists led the A/A for much of the summer but a 21-29 record after August 7 killed their playoff hopes. Injuries are what did the deal. Canada lost half its rotation, its closer, and half of its starting infield within mere weeks. You can win with all that but it's pretty hard. Ah well. Just missing out in 1920 will make '21 that much sweeter when we win the pennant.

Pitching

Pressed as hard as they were, it was not surprising that the Mounted Baseballists tinkered with a 3-man rotation for a couple weeks in early September. This gamble only pushed them further away from contention, although in a sense even some losing efforts out of their top men was better than using, say, Bernard Thivierge for an extra few starts. Maxandre "Grizzly Man" Lavoie still ended up the A/A Big Six award winner, so it wasn't all bad. And really, outside of Lavoie himself the staff was very, very young.

Batting

If it's possible, the Royal Canadians may have a problem of having too many great hitters. Losing 3B Michel Briand and 1B Tim Kinch for a good chunk of the season allowed the team to try Irish import MacKillan Dwywy at both slots for extended time. Third base is supposed to be his natural position but he was an absolute disaster (17 errors, a .866 fielding average in 35 starts there), and the team wants to have both him and Kinch in the lineup so it's looking like left field will be his spot in 1921. Having all three players in the lineup full-time and bringing back stud keystone man Jon Simon will really help next year.
