1992 European Championships Preview
October 26th 1992 -The powers that be have decided upon a new format for the 1992 tournament. They hope to cut out a few uncompetetive games by making the tournament a two-tier affair.
The bottom 3 teams from each group last time round (Poland, Switzerland, Bulgaria, Belgium, Scotland and England) have been banished to 'Division B' where they will play each other for the chance to appear in the top flight in 1996. This leaves 16 teams in 'Division A', who will be drawn into two groups of 8 and proceed from there. Each team will play all of the others in their group 6 times (giving a 42 game schedule) with the top two proceeding to the knockout stages.
The bottom team in each group will be relegated to Division B for 1996 with the top two from Division B this time round being called up to replace them. Division B will be a simple round robin with the teams playing each other 8 times (giving 40 games).
The draw for Division A is as follows.
