July 1, 1894 Update

Not much has changed in the standings - the Orioles continue to lead the way with a decent, though not overwhelming, lead. The Browns and Colonels are tied for the second spot with Pittsburgh, Cleveland and Brooklyn clumped together just behind the top three.

Rick Kushner continues to thrive as a workhorse for Baltimore, having piled up 23 victories thus far (of the 42 posted by the first-place Orioles). The second place total is a mere 13 and Kush is on pace to eclipse 40 for the year. His 3.02 earned run mark is also the best in the league. The only question is when his arm is going to fall off.

The batters continue to get the best of things with Brooklyn's Nathan Joseph pacing the race with a robust .441 average. The 22-year-old Joseph has earned his first starting role this season after hitting .325 as a reserve last year and is putting up numbers that would lead you to believe he's going to be a fixture in the Bridegrooms lineup for many years.

Even home runs are being collected at a brisk pace this season. Ed Stevenson of the Phillies has already made 11 round trips of the bases this year in just 60 games - his previous career-best was 9 in 132 games back in the watered-down year of 1890.
