June 30, July 1,2 v Portsmouth Clippers (37-33)

June 30-Fernando Peralta homered, doubled and drove in two and Todd Lewis hit his 2nd HR of the year as Newmarket squeaked past Portsmouth 5-4. Dan Zimmerman, back from injury, went eight innings, allowing seven hits and four runs while walking two and striking out seven to earn his first win since April 16. Rob Gibson hit his 20th HR of the year, a two run shot in the loss for the Clippers. (32-40)

July 1-The Mules lead off July with a bang as Alberto Flores had three hits and three RBI and Fernando Peralta and Dennis Spears each homered in support of Luis Sanchez, who pitched 5 1/3 innings, allowing three runs as Newmarket hammered Portsmouth 10-3. Mario Decos added a two run double in the win for the Mules. (33-40)

July 2-Newmarket completed the sweep of Portsmouth as Roberto Rodriguez and Todd Lewis each drove in runs with RBI singles in the bottom of the 9th inning, giving the Mules a 6-5 win after the bullpen had squandered the lead in the top of the inning, allowing the Clippers to take a 5-4 lead headed into the bottom of the inning. Starting pitcher Fernando Garcia helped his own cause with a two run single in the 2nd inning, giving the Mules an early 3-1 lead. (34-40)

July 3,4,5,6 at Orono Riot (32-43)

July 3-The Mules hit five homeruns, including two by Mario Decos, who drove in three runs and Fernando Peralta who also drove in three, helping the Mules beat up on the Riot, 12-4. Joey Blye was the beneficiary of all the support, going eight innings, allowing four runs and six hits with one walk and nine strikeouts, earning the win. (35-40)

July 4-Alberto Flores drove in the lead run with a sacrifice fly in the top of the 9th inning, giving the Mules a 3-2 win and Jesus Guardado his 10th win of the year. Mario Decos and Roberto Rodriguez each hit solo homeruns in the win for Newmarket. Juan Escobedo had a double and two run homerun for Orono in the loss. Guardado pitched a complete game, allowing seven hits and two runs with one walk and six strikeouts. (36-40)

July 5-Matthis Beauchamp hit a solo HR and Olivier Racine broke open a one run game with a two run double as Orono ended Newmarket's six game win streak, beating the Mules 5-2. Luis Hernandez went seven innings, allowing four hits and two runs with six strikeouts, earning the win. (36-41)

July 6-Ramiro Guzman drove in Andres Medina with a two out single in the bottom of the 11th inning off John Coury, giving the Riot a split of the four game series, beating the Mules 6-5. Medina had three hits and an RBI while Juan Escobedo added two hits and two RBI in the win. Roberto Rodriguez had two doubles and an RBI in the loss for Newmarket. (36-42)

-3B Aaron Baker and the Gloucester Fishermen have come to terms on a new 3 year contract extention that will keep Baker in Gloucester until he is 34 years old. The deal calls for Baker to be paid just under $3.5 million dollars over the life of the contract. On the year, Baker is hitting .313 with 8 HR and 43 RBI in 75 games for the Fishermen.

Leading into the All-Star Break for the Mules is a 6 game road trip that starts in Portland against the Bulldogs followed by a trip to Dover to square off against the Green Wave.
