July 17-Jesus Guardado pitched 8 2/3 innings, allowing six hits and two runs with four walks and three strikeouts as he outdueled all-star Jorge Garcia and beat the Moose 3-2. Garcia went just five innings, allowing two hits and one run with eight strikeouts. Leading the offense for the Mules was Alberto Flores, who went 2-4 with an RBI. (39-46)

July 18-Roberto Rodriguez hit a solo HR and Dan Zimmerman pitched seven innings, scattering eight hits and allowing just one run while walking two and striking out nine as Newmarket beat Augusta 3-1. Francis Lewis drove in the lone run of the game for the Moose, while Dennis Spears had an RBI double and a run scored in the win. (40-46)

July 19-Jarrod Clark homered, drove in two runs and scored twice, and Andy Taylor added two hits and an RBI as Augusta beat Newmarket 5-1. Donald Warner, who was 4-15 coming into the game, pitched a complete game, two hitter. He allowed the one run and managed to pitch around seven walks while striking out three, earning the win. Luis Sanchez struck out a Newmarket season high 12 over six innings of work in a losing effort. (40-47)

July 20-Trailing 7-0, Newmarket staged a furious rally, tying the game at seven behind Roberto Rodriguez 23rd HR of the year, a 3 run shot and Mario Decos, who tied the game in the top of the ninth, before an error by Alberto Flores allowing Felipe Alvarez to score and giving Augusta to sneak past the Mules 8-7. July 21-Mario Decos went 3-5 with two homeruns, three runs scored and five RBI, and Alberto Flores added a two run double as Newmarket outlasted Portsmouth 8-5. Paco Anaya picked up his first big league win, going seven innings, allowing four hits and three runs with three walks and three strikeouts. (41-48)

July 22-Cris Feliciano went 4-5 with an RBI and two runs and Diego Moran had a homerun and three RBI as Portsmouth beat up on Newmarket 9-2. Vincent Masson went the first seven innings, allowing just one hit and no runs while walking three and striking out four, earning the win. Jesus Guardado gave up seven runs and 11 hits over eight innings, picking up his 7th loss of the year. (41-49)

July 23-Domingo Garcia hit an RBI double off John Coury in the top of the 11th inning, breaking a 1-1 tie and helping the Clippers take two of three from the Mules, winning 2-1. The loss spoiled a great outing from Dan Zimmerman, who pitched eight scoreless innings, allowing three hits and three walks with six strikeouts. Coury pitched the final three innings, giving up four hits and three runs, while striking out six, but earning his 5th loss of the year. (41-50)

News and Notes:
-Newmarket has gone a long way to ensure that they keep their star players as they lock up All-Star 3B Roberto Rodriguez for four more years, taking him to his 36th birthday. The deal calls for "The Dominator" to be paid $2.45 million a year for each year of the contract. There is also a $500,000 MVP clause in the deal. On the season, Rodriguez his hitting a league leading .340 with 23 HR and 56 RBI in 332 AB's.
