The 'Crats made the playoffs last season
The
Arlington Bureaucrats are looking for a new owner. Arlington (based in Arlington, VA, not Arlington, TX!) has been a successful PEBA franchise. They've finished above .500 in each of their seasons, making the playoffs last year. 2009 hasn't been as kind to the 'Crats; they've started out just 16-29. But with a young and talented pitching staff, cash on hand and prospects in the pipe, there's no reason a new owner couldn't turn things around in a hurry.
Pitching is the strength of the 'Crats.
Víctor "Alibi" Matos is one of the premiere pitchers in the PEBA. He leads the league in BB/9 (0.68) and K/BB (13.00). A better ace you could not ask for. The front office is hoping two young starters -
Ronald Workman (22) and
Michael Bender (21) - can return to their previous season's form. Both pitchers were magnificent in '08 before struggling this year, but talent and youth are on their side. If the lackluster offense can provide a lead, the stellar bullpen will usually seal the deal.
An interested, loyal fan base helps keep the 'Crats coffers filled. With over $6M in cash on hand, there's wiggle room for a new owner to come in and make some moves. Fans have been turning out despite the poor start to the season and relatively high ticket prices ($22), suggesting there's room for growth in that area.
The PEBA's 2009 Amateur Draft will be held this weekend. This is an
excellent opportunity for an incoming owner to place his stamp on the 'Crats as well as to meet and socialize with our owners (many of our owners select their players live in our chat room - a great time is had by all). The organization already boasts some impressive young talent, including 3B
David Teague, C
Larry Brown (a great 8th round find in the '07 draft), 2B
Mitchell White and 3B
António Carbezola. If you think you'd be up to overseeing the 'Crats draft, I will happily provide you with whatever assitance I can to get you up to speed quickly.
The PEBA has been fortunate to collect a great group of owners who are competitive yet social, and we'd expect the same from any newcomer. We particularly value the kind of owner who enjoys posting in our
forum and sharing
original articles with the rest of the league. There is a certain time commitment expected; while not at all overwhelming, it's important to us that you'll be able to attend to your new team. We do prefer incoming owners to own a copy of the game.
We'd love to hear from you! To apply for the Arlington ownership position,
