January 30, 1998
CHICAGO - With Spring Training rapidly approaching, the White Sox and Tampa Bay Devil Rays agreed to a trade, tweaking both clubs' rosters heading into the pre-season.
The White Sox acquired catcher Todd Pratt from the Devil Rays in exchange for outfielder Mike Cameron. Pratt, 30, was set to compete with reigning Gold Glove catcher Dan Wilson for playing time in Tampa Bay. Both players were selected in the expansion draft in October. Pratt hit .287 with 7 home runs and 33 RBI in 230 at bats with the Cleveland Indians last season.
Cameron, 25, is a strong defensive center fielder with excellent speed and baserunning abilities. He hit .243 with 9 homers and 33 RBI in 85 games with Chicago last year. He hit .338 with one round-tripper and 12 RBI in 80 at bats with the club's AAA affiliate last season.
