Clark finally Thrills with homer
Vaughn doubles in Devil Rays debut
April 27, 1998
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - Will Clark was acquired to bring some much-needed power to the expansion Tampa Bay Devil Rays lineup. Tonight, nearly one full month into the season, he finally came through with his first home run of the season.
Clark hit a two-run home run off Oakland Athletics pitcher Steve Karsay in the second inning, helping to lead the Devil Rays to a 7-4 win over the A's.
"It felt good, I can tell you that," Clark said. "I know it takes me awhile some years to get going, but I really haven't felt comfortable in the box this season at all. We're getting there though. Hopefully this is the start."
The home run was the only one in the game for Tampa Bay, and Clark's lone hit of the contest.
Dan Wilson picked up three hits, coming just a home run shy of hitting for the cycle. Greg Vaughn, joining the team today after signing as a free agent, made his debut and went 1-for-3 with a double, a walk, and a strikeout while batting sixth as the designated hitter.
Aaron Sele improved to 2-2 with the win, giving up four runs on seven hits and two walks with three strikeouts in seven innings of work. Rick Aguilera recorded his fourth save of the season.
