Hoiles hits three homers
Seattle outslugs Baltimore
June 1, 1998
BALTIMORE - Chris Hoiles of the Orioles won the battle against Seattle pitching, but lost the war.
Hoiles hit three home runs at Oriole Park at Camden Yards in a losing effort as Baltimore lost to the Mariners, 12-10.
"I don't try to hit homers," he said. "I try to go out there and have good at bats. If I put a good swing on the ball, then it is going to go out of the park. I didn't try to hit the first one or the second one or the third one. I just try to have good at bats."
Hoiles struck out in the second inning, hit a solo home run off Scott Sanders in the fourth inning, hit a three-run shot off Sanders in the fifth, walked in the seventh, and hit a solo home run off Bill Risley in the eighth inning.
Hoiles is hitting .344 with 13 home runs and 34 RBI on the season.
Chris Hoiles had a career day, hitting three home runs.
