Rockies' Walker placed on DL
Early MVP candidate to miss few weeks
June 5, 1998
ANAHEIM - The Colorado Rockies lineup suffered a huge blow today when the club put slugger Larry Walker on the 15-day disabled list with a knee injury.
Walker has already been talked about as the hands down favorite to win the National League Most Valuable Player award. In just 250 at bats, he has hit .468 with 28 home runs and 72 RBI for the Rockies. Those numbers will have to wait a few weeks to be padded any further.
Walker hurt his knee making a diving catch during tonight's Rockies game against the Anaheim Angels. After being helped off the field, tests were conducted and a team spokesperson announced the star outfielder had damaged the meniscus in his knee. Officials hope Walker will miss 2-3 weeks of action and will be able to return without a rehabilitation assignment to the minor leagues.
