April 16,17,18 at Oyster River Bobcats (6-1)

April 16-Roberto Rodriguez hit a two run homerun in the top of the 8th inning, turning a 2-1 deficit into a 3-2 Mules victory. Juan Escobedo went 3-4 with a double and run scored in the win. Dan Zimmerman was fantastic, allowing just two hits and one run over seven innings, walking three and striking out nine, improving to 2-0 on the young season. (5-3)

April 17-Trailing 2-0 entering the 7th inning, the Newmarket offense finally came alive, as Mario Saena hit a solo HR and Mario Flores hit a pinch hit two run HR, giving the Mules their second straight come from behind 3-2 victory. Wallace Harrison got the win, going six innings, giving up two runs and five hits, striking out five. Converted closer Lex Geels struck out 13 in seven innings for the Bobcats in the loss. (6-3)

April 18-Mario Saenz homered for a second straight day, a three run blast, and Quint Kobes added a solo shot and two runs scored as Newmarket completed the sweep of Oyster River, winning 6-4. Jesus Guardado picked up the win, giving up eight hits and four runs in 7 1/3 innings of work. Jose Barron pitched the ninth for the save. (7-3)

April 19,20,21 at Portsmouth Clippers (3-7)

April 19-Quint Kobes went 2-5 with a homerun and three RBI and Scott Fullerton, batting leadoff for the first time this year, went 3-5 with 3 doubles, two RBI and three runs scored as Newmarket beat Portsmouth easily, 9-3. Jesus Flores scattered 11 hits over seven innings, also surviving four walks, getting his 2nd win of the year. (8-3)

April 20-Jessie Church pitched seven solid innings, allowing six hits and two runs, one earned, with four walks and three strikeouts, and Felix Ortiz went 2-4 with a bases clearing double as the Clippers beat the Mules 4-2. Fernando Peralta went 2-4 with a double and RBI to lead the Newmarket offense. (8-4)

April 21-Rob Gibson hit a two out, two strike pitch into the centerfield bleachers off Fernando Garcia in the bottom of the 13th inning as Portsmouth took two of three from Newmarket, winning 6-5. Pat Peterson went 3-3 with 3 RBI for the Clippers in the win, while Mario Saenz went 2-6 with a three run HR to lead the Mules offense in the loss. The Portsmouth bullpen pitched 7 1/3 innings, allowing two hits and no runs with one walk and nine strikeouts, helping Portsmouth to the win. (8-5)

-Arnold Dawson of the Salem Witches has gotten off to a rough start this year, going 0-4 with a 5.40 ERA, after going 16-9 with a 3.60 ERA in 30 starts a year ago. He has pitched 30 innings, allowing 34 hits. However, his BB/K ratio is still excellent at 2/26.

Slow week, that's about it. Next on the schedule for Newmarket are three games in Bangor against the Crusaders, followed by three at home vs. the Augusta Moose.
