National League

Detroit Wolverines 32-22
Providence Grays 30-24
Cleveland Blues 29-24

A very eventful week in the NL this week. First of all, there were three trades, two of which sent infielders to AA teams. First, the Buffalo Bisons sent Dude Esterbrook, a versatile utility player, to the St. Louis club in exchange for a backup pitcher. Esterbrook paid immediate dividends for his new team, going 7 for 15 this week and giving them improved defense at third base.
Buffalo made up for this somewhat inexplicable trade by getting infielder George Creamer from the Cleveland Blues one day later. Creamer has been made the new starting second baseman and has gone 3 for 6 in the two games he's played for Buffalo.
The final trade brought Worcester some much-needed cash, as they shipped Hick Carpenter to the Pittsburgh Alleghenys. Carpenter is expected to be a major part of the short-handed Alleghenys' offense.
Finally, the major leagues saw their first career-ending injury this week, as shortstop Arthur "Doc" Irwin of the Worcester Ruby Legs suffered a shoulder injury that will end his base ball career at the age of 24. In three seasons, Irwin hit .241 for the Ruby Legs. His defense in particularly will be sorely missed.
