I wouldn't be surprised if either Brooklyn, Pittsburgh and the Yankees enter the mix as well. Brooklyn was the team that signed Babe Ruth as a free agent back when he was first in the free agent market.

Pittsburgh went from World's champions to the worst record in the majors the first year following the retirement of Jimmie Foxx.

The Yankees could sign Ted Williams, who may not be ready to start the 1945 season due to the injury that cut short his 1944 season. He is a lefty pull hitter that could probably take advantage of the short porch in right field.
