7th December 1893 - L Street Boxing Auditorium
MW - Dan Creedon (26-5)(24) TKO7 Denny Kelliher (13-13-1)(6)
FW - Marty McCue (11-8)(11) KO2 Patsy Haley (12-9-4)(5)
MW - Ted White (14-1-1)(12) MD10 Billy McCarthy (22-3-2)(11)
MW - Mike Lucie (11-1-0)(11) KO9 Harris Martin (11-1)(10)
Lucie (below left) announced himself to the boxing world by destroying the highly regarded and unbeaten Martin.
The knockout blows, a heavy right handed combination, were the finishing touches of a one sided power display put on by Lucie. He had Martin on the deck as early as the second round and Martin hardly got a look in thereafter.
WW - Andy Watson (15-2-1)(2) TKO4 (Inj) Billy Maber (11-3)(8)
Maber was forced to retire after apparently breaking his right wrist.
In all fairness Watson had dominated his 'crude' opponent from the opening bell. Watson planted his excellent jab on Maber with great ease, opening two nasty cuts.
There was a gulf in class between the pair.
WW - Mysterious Billy Smith (17-0)(17) TKO10 Jim Franey (12-2)(11)
Smith (below right) left it late but maintained his perfect record of stoppages.
The fight was one way traffic with Smith landing vicious hooks and rapier like combinations. Franey tried to mix it with him but enjoyed no real success.
Smith has been brought along quietly by connection's but this victory has put him in the spotlight.
