Game 1: Pittsburgh 4 at Hartford 1

The Pirates scored twice in the 2nd and twice in the 9th as they beat the Whalers in the opening game of the World Series in Hartford. The Whalers' lone run came in the 8th. For the 3rd straight series, the Whale have dropped the home opener, and are now just 4-5 at home in the playoffs. Pittsburgh improved their road record to a perfect 7-0.

Pittsburgh leads 1 game to none.
