I think racism did a lot more to tarnish the game than performance enhancers, but I will admit that the thought of 19th century players injecting themselves with goat hormones and strychnine is a little ****ing weird.
I don't really see how modern players have somehow tarnished the game when guys have been taking sketchy PEDs in baseball and every other sport for over 100 years. That doesn't mean sports shouldn't be doing everything they can to keep competition clean, but this whole "modern athletes are destroying the integrity of competition" bull**** isn't anything but naivety on the part of the general public and a focal point for the media cash cow.
