The fatal flaw is using stats. Stats straight from the game will not work for aging purposes unless you adjust them for ballpark (and environment if you're using historical sims where the league totals change over time). There is no flaw with using ratings. (actually, there's a tiny flaw...but it's just that...very tiny).
