In the AL, the Rays are off to a great start, and the Tigers and Whalers follow close behind. Cleveland, Oakland, and Portland (ME) are tied for the 4th playoff spot. The Yankees are off to a rough 11-12 start. Only time will tell if it's a fluke, or if the Yankees are no longer a contender. The worst team is the second-year Buffalo Wings at 7-16.

In the NL, the Mets and Pirates are off to hot starts, with the Dodgers and Phillies trailing them by only one game. The early surprise is the third-year Carolina Storm, only one game out of a playoff spot. The worst team is the Florida Marlins at 7-16.
