Dempster throws no-no
Brewers hurler walks eight in no-hitter
September 14, 1999
ST. LOUIS — Milwaukee Brewers rookie pitcher Ryan Dempster was as good as any veteran tonight as he threw a no-hitter against the Cardinals.
Dempster, 22, gave up no runs on no hits and eight walks while striking out nine St. Louis batters in a 10-0 Brewers romp over the Cardinals. The outing was a surprise to everyone in the stadium, including Dempster.
"I felt prett good throughout the game and really didn't realize what was going on until pretty late in the game," Dempster said. "I had enough guys on base that I wasn't thinking that nobody had a hit yet. When you spend as much time working out of the stretch as I do, or as I did tonight, you don't think so much about how many hits you've allowed."
Dempster is 6-6 with a 5.38 ERA in 14 starts with the Brewers. Big league batters have hit .298 against him this year.
