Francisco Méndez, right fielder of
San Francisco, was the cream of the freshman crop in the National League and today he received the 2117 Newcomer of the Year Award.
He played in 150 games, compiling a .308 batting average with 132 hits, 21 home runs, 85 walks and a .428 on-base percentage.
Méndez also chipped in 72 RBIs and scored 73 times.
Tuesday, November 9th, 2117: Cortéz Is AL's Top Rookie
This year's outstanding rookie has been chosen and the honor goes to
Detroit right fielder
Luis Cortéz. He received the 2117 American League Newcomer of the Year Award for his consistent play and solid numbers.
He finished the regular season with a .309 batting average, 39 doubles, 8 triples and 43 home runs. The 26-year-old Cortéz also had 140 RBIs and scored 128 times.
Wednesday, November 10th, 2117: New York Hurler Wins NL Outstanding Pitcher Award
The
New York Mets have a rising superstar or maybe even a budding Hall-of-Famer in the making.
It's
José Uribes, this year's National League Outstanding Pitcher Award selection. This blossoming hurler wowed fans, peers and sportswriters with a fabulous performance. He has won this award for the 2nd time.
Uribes compiled a 26-3 record in 34 starts, tallied 212 strikeouts in 239.1 innings and recorded a 1.92 ERA. Other clubs managed only a .181 batting average against him.
Wednesday, November 10th, 2117: Hartford Pitcher Racks Up Outstanding Pitcher Award
This past season was very special for
Brennan Lane of the
Hartford Whalers. He picked up 30 wins against only 1 loss and was chosen the winner of the 2117 American League Outstanding Pitcher Award. It's the 8th time that he has won this award.
The 34-year-old Whalers ace fashioned a fine 1.48 ERA in 35 starts. He threw 262 innings, gave up 158 hits, 35 walks and held opponents to a .171 average.
Thursday, November 11th, 2117: Kirby Selected NL's #1 Batter
Mike Kirby has been around Major League Baseball enough to know a good hot streak when he sees one -- and he got to see one firsthand all year. For his standout run through the 2117 season, he's taking home the Outstanding Hitter Award in the National League. He has won the MVP award for the 4th time in his career

Chicago first baseman put up a batting average of .341 with 32 doubles, 3 triples, 50 home runs and 131 RBIs.
Thursday, November 11th, 2117: AL's Top Hitter for 2117 Named
Portland's
Jim McRorie put the wraps on a fine campaign today by winning the 2117 American League Outstanding Hitter Award.
He scorched the opposition with a .343 average, picking up 173 hits, 31 doubles, 1 triple, 42 home runs and 114 RBIs, while scoring 124 runs, in what many would say has been one of the better seasons of the veteran's career.
