Yankees pick up series split
Devil Rays drop final two games of series
September 27, 1999
NEW YORK — The Tampa Bay Devil Rays have lost two in a row as they try to hold onto their lead in the American League Wild Card race.
The Devil Rays lost to the New York Yankees 10-4 today as Kenny Rogers kept Tampa Bay off balance enough to improve to 16-8 on the season.
With the loss, and the Toronto Blue Jays being idle today, Tampa Bay's lead in the playoff hunt is down to just a half game. The Devil Rays and Blue Jays will play a brief two-game series at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida tomorrow and Wednesday. The Devil Rays will wrap up the season with the Yankees coming to Tropicana Field for three games while Toronto travels to Cleveland for four games with the Indians.
