Rays overtake Jays
Tampa Bay leads Wild Card race

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — The Tampa Bay Devil Rays have regained the lead in the American League Wild Card race after topping the visiting Toronto Blue Jays, 5-3 at Tropicana Field.
Pedro Martinez was strong, giving up three runs on eight hits and one walk with eight strikeouts in seven innings of work. Gabe White and Rich Garces combined on a scoreless eighth inning before handing the ball off to Paul Quantrill for the ninth inning. Martinez improved to 19-3 with the win while Quantrill recorded his 29th save of the year.
The Devil Rays have a magic number of four with three games remaining on their schedule, at home with the New York Yankees. The Blue Jays have four games to go, taking on the Cleveland Indians in Ohio.
