Indians scalp Devil Rays
Cleveland pounds Tampa Bay 13-1
October 16, 1999
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — The Tampa Bay Devil Rays played a bit more like the team most expected them to be this season as they fell to the Cleveland Indians, 13-1, in Game 3 of the American League Championship Series.
Devil Rays starter Bruce Chen struggled early on but was hammered in the fourth inning before being relieved by right-hander Kip Wells. Chen gave up nine runs on 10 hits and thee walks in just 3 1/3 innings of work. Wells would give up four runs on nine hits and two walks in 5 2/3 innings of relief.
"It was one of those nights where everything we threw seemed to be hit, and hit hard," said Tampa Bay skipper Christian O'Neal. "We've got to go out there tomorrow and tie things up again."
