Durazo wins Rookie of the Year
Devil Rays slugger was key to Tampa bay success

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Erubiel Durazo hit 30 home runs and 100 RBI in his rookie season and today was honored with the first of what could be a number of awards as he was named the 1999 American League Rookie of the Year.
"It's a great honor," Durazo said. "There were a lot of guys out there deserving and I'm really humbled by this."
Durazo hit .287 with 30 home runs, 100 RBI, and 98 runs scored in 143 games. He served primarily as the designated hitter for the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, but did make 30 starts at first base.
"The kid deserves it, he really does,'" said Devil Rays manager Christian O'Neal. "
