Fight recap
Gans started off the fight with a ferocious body attack. He continually worked Erne’s body and won all of the early rounds except round 4. That was the only round of the fight that Erne legitimately won. He stunned Gans with a right uppercut and then scored with several combinations. Erne was getting the worst of it in the middle rounds and Gans sent him to a knee for a count of three in round 8. By round 11, both of Erne’s eyes were very swollen and then Gans hit him with an overhand right and Erne went down for the count. Gans becomes the first Lightweight Champion.
Historical bout
Erne won via TKO in round 12. Gans was cut by an accidental head butt.
