Fight recap:
Both fighters entered the bout in top shape but Dime was 11 years older than Hegarty. The first round was pretty slow, with both fighters feeling each other out. Rounds 2,3 and 4 all went to Dime as he was the aggressor, landing several combinations and hurting Hegarty in each round. At the start of round 5, Hegarty had a large mouse under his left eye. Again Dime was the aggressor and then, all of a sudden, Hegarty dropped Dime with a vicious three punch combination just 48 seconds into the round. Dime made it to his feet at the count of nine but was very wobbly. Dime managed to hang on for another minute and then was dropped again by a wicked left hook. This time Dime got up at the seven count and then Hegarty continued the onslaught. The referee had seen enough and stopped the fight at the 2:46 mark. Tim Hegarty, although behind on all three cards, won the fight and became the first ever Featherweight Champion of the world.
