Made an initial inquiry for Ben Sheets and was surprised by the price. Doing a 1-1 deal, the Brewers would accept Oscar Tejada (20 overall/79 potential), David Pauley (20/28) or Lee Gronkiewiz (60/60), not to mention Jed Lowrie, Masterson, Ellsbury, Matsuzaka, Okajima, Pedroia, Delcarmen, Youkilis, Lester, or Wakefield (who announced his retirement already). Sabathia was pretty much the same crowd. I have $21m ($160 budget, $136.5m in expenses) in budget room, so adding one or the other of these guys won't be problem. Schilling ($8m) is on the DL, and he comes off the payroll at the end of the season, along with Varitek ($9m), Wakefield ($4m) and Mackowiak ($2.8m) so I have the room to resign them if I want.
If they are still in Milwaukee come deadline time, depending on my health and theply of Lester/Buccholz, I'll make another attempt with a reasonable offer that would be more beneficial to the Brewers IRL.
