Yeah, I was surprised by the Caps downfall as well. They seemed to have the pitching to dominate for awhile. But Skull still had a big year and will be rewarded for it (stay tuned for 1915 awards post).
As for Mr. Blevins, happy to report that his hand healed up well. He was pretty excited at the creation of the developmental league and went on to win two Player of the Week honors and one Batter of the Month award for the Raleigh Juniors in 1914.
He got called up to the Big Club at the end of both 1914 and '15 and played backup third base for the Caps during that time. He's in his mid-20s so maybe he'll have a chance to be an everyday guy at some point. His teammates still kid him ruthlessly about the day he picked a fight with his locker and lost...
