June 3, 1883 - Sunday Base Ball Report

National League

New York Gothams 14-6
Boston Beaneaters 14-7
Providence Grays 14-8
Chicago White Stockings 14-9

Detroit Wolverines 5-17

The two big surprises of the year so far in the National League are the New York Gothams and the Chicago White Stockings. Neither team was expected to be very good, yet they are both among the four teams deadlocked for NL supremacy. Both teams have excellent pitching they are relying upon thus far in the season - New York has Bobby Mitchell and Tim Keefe, and Chicago has Larry Corcoran and the suddenly reliable Charlie Guth.
