What surprised me that "The Killer" lasted until the 3rd round. I guess that nobody needed a power hitting second baseman for the future. No wonder some teams always seem to remain near the bottom of the standings from year to year. Killebrew is currently a 1-star rated player with 5-star potential and has made the opening day roster for the Red Sox.
Another think that caught my eye was the sudden high finish of the New York Yankees. They are the only team remaining that hasn't been to the World Series. It's been a 52-year drought.
Hank Aaron has made the opening day roster for the Milwaukee Braves for 1953. I'll add him to the followed players list since he is one of your favorites.
On a side note, I've already lost 5 players due to season ending injuries and I haven't started the regular season yet. There seems to be a rash of season ending injuries since I brought this over to OOTP9. I've noticed that in my other ones as well. That's why I stopped my thread over on operationsports with the '67 Red Sox. I lost a pair of Joses (Santiago and Tartabull) plus another long stint for Tony C.
Have you noticed that Mr. Mantle is having trouble hitting at the "Mistake by the Lake"?
Jackie Robinson is the reigning AL MVP yet he has not been signed by any team as I am about to start the 1953 regular season!
One other question is on my mind as I enter 1953. What's going to come first, Ted Williams passing Babe Ruth on the all-time home run list or his retirement?
