American Association

St. Louis Browns 34-15

Pittsburgh Alleghenys 25-23
Cincinnati Red Stockings 23-25
Louisville Eclipse 22-25

New York Metropolitans 12-37

Lots of eventful occurrences in the AA this week. First of all, Bob Barr of the Pittsburgh Alleghenys became the third pitcher in big league history to record a no-hit game, joining Ed Stratton and Bill McGunnigle. Barr no-hit the Philadelphia Athletics on Friday. The very next day, Pittsburgh's Morrie Critchley took a no-hitter into the eighth inning against Philadelphia before Pud Galvin broke it up. Critchley finished with a one-hitter, so Philadelphia managed just one hit in 18 innings over two games against Pittsburgh pitching.

Baltimore and Louisville exchanged middle infielders this week, as Baltimore sent second baseman John Shetzline (.276) to Louisville and got back shortstop Bill Schenck (.250) in return.

Finally, St. Louis and Columbus played a four-game series for first place in the AA. Although Columbus took the first game, St. Louis came back to win three in a row and took a two-game lead in the Association.
