August 5, 1883 - Sunday National League Base Ball Report
Boston Beaneaters 43-21
Chicago White Stockings 37-25
Cleveland Blues 37-26
Buffalo Bisons 36-26
New York Gothams 37-28
Providence Grays 34-32
Detroit Wolverines 17-47
Philadelphia Quakers 15-51
Boston had a tough week this week, as they dropped three of four against the Cleveland Blues, and lost the services of star second baseman Ross Barnes for the next three weeks (concussion). Nevertheless, they remain five games ahead of second-place Chicago as we approach the two-thirds mark of the 1883 campaign.
The big news in individual achievements has been the dominance of New York's Dan Brouthers. Fresh off his first MVH Award in 1882, Brouthers is showing he deserves to be discussed in the same breath with Boston's stars Anson and Barnes.
This week Boston will take on Providence, while second-place Chicago travels to Detroit and Buffalo.
