I don't know if I'd consider it "building up", but I have had pitchers with a 1 or 2 endurance (out of 10) jump up to a 4-6 over the course of a single season of being thrown in as a starter. Once, it happened without changing his position from MR. I didn't have enough healthy SPs, one too many MRs and didn't want to juggle people around, so I threw him into the rotation with the intention of keeping him there temporarily. He wound up being my regular number five guy that season and I changed his position after that, but he suffered a career-ending injury the following season It doesn't happen much, but I have seen it.
