Chris Cannizzaro is not in the 71 cubby roster, because he was traded to the cubs mid season. He started in SD in 71. But the solution to this is simple. Click the "Manager Options" button from the bar along the bottom, and turn on Commissioner Mode. Now that you can edit players, go to the Cannizzaro's Profile Page (Select SD from the team menu, then select "Rosters" from the tabs along the top, find Cannizzaro, and double click his name). The player editor is the final tab on the profile page (it's only activated if you are in commissioner mode). On this tab, you can change Cannizzaro to chicago.
As for lineup control of the other team WITHOUT taking full control of the team, I don't know... You can set up the 7-day lineups before the series starts, then change the option to not use alternates... But as for doing subs, you have to control the team during PbP to do this,
