I'm not sure if I expected a big press conference or not after being named the manager of the AZL Indians, but I didn't get one. I didn't even get my name in the local paper, so pretty much nobody knows I'm here. I did at least get an office, and received a copy of my tentative roster. I was told to expect changes to the roster up until Opening Day, and even after that. I'll get an email when I'm losing a player, or getting a new player from the big boss, Mark Shapiro.
I almost choked when I looked at the roster though, because I had 9 middle relievers and 7 catchers. That was it. I thought there was a mistake so I emailed Mark Shapiro, which was my mistake. "I told you the roster isn't final and there will be changes. Plus it is your job to work with what we give you and win!" was all the email read.
The big leaguers are now gone though, and the upper level minor leaguers. What's left is guys that are injured, and guys that probably will never play in the major leagues, and coaches like myself. Hopefully the Indians will draft some good players in this years draft, and we'll have a good team. Opening day can't come soon enough.
