- Certain future Hall of Fame trainer, Emanuel Steward, found himself possibly having both of his fighters, Jesse Benavides and Jemal Hinton, should each win their unification matches having to fight one another for the Jr. Feather Weight World Championship.
- Officials for the fight were: referee Vincent Rainone, the 3 judges were from England, USA, and Italy.
- Perez focused on his defense in training and planned on utilizing his reach advantage to keep the slugging Benavides at a distance.
- Jesse Benavides was an exceptional amateur with a record of 320-20 and that background was expected to serve him well with the highly experienced Raul Perez.
- The betting odds were EVEN on who would win.
- Reports out of Benavides camp were that he had a fantastic one and that the sparring sessions with stable mate Jemal Hinton were better them many main event fights.
- After 3 rounds, Benavides was giving his fans plenty to cheer about. Perez was bleeding from a cut right eye and behind on the scorecard of Ringside Expert Jason Wood 29-28.
- At 1:25 of round 4 a perfect Benavides left hook caught Perez flush and he was counted out by referee Vincent Rainone.
