I really think there's some fundamental Vista thingy going on here. Can you
try looking at this post, and see if any of that information helps?
I heard from another customer that turning off Windows indexing and excluding OOTP files from regular virus scans eliminated crashing for him, too, although I suspect the first post is more likely to be helpful to you.
