New Player Asking For Advice On Mods

Hi,

I just purchased OOTPX tonight. I have had the demo for about a week and decide to take the plunge. I played some Baseball Mogul 2008 and have decided to step up.

I would like to get some mods for logos, parks, etc. and am currently overwhelmed with the choices. I have spent some time every day for the last week getting acquainted with the forums and the website. I have also watched the tutorials and spent some time with the online manual.

My fear is that I will install a mod and break something. Or that I will make a poor choice in which mod to install and wish I had done it differently.

So, here are some questions that I have and I would certainly be happy with links to other threads or even the right search keywords that would get me to a prior thread.

My two initial goals are
  • To play a historical league running the Chicago Cubs starting in 1969. In this game I would manage each game but not each pitch.
  • To play a fictional league with fictional players starting in some year in the past. This league would be structured as MLB, but maybe with different team nicknames. I would like this league to start with a inaugural draft and expand roughly (or exactly) at the same time as MLB has expanded. I have not chosen a year to start with. In this game I would sim the games one at a time and learn how to use the strategy sliders.
So here are my questions.
  1. Is the PadreFan All-In-One Mod the mod I want to use?
  2. Are there alternatives that might suit my wants better?
  3. What are the ramifications of installing the mod if I decide to do something else later?
  4. Is there a different mod to use for prior years such as 1969?
  5. Is there a problem with installing multiple mods?
  6. Is there a Mod FAQ that will answer these and more questions that I have overlooked?
Thank you in advance for any answers, guidance, or advice in these matters.

Looking forward to joining this community. My week of lurking has shown me that there are some quality people around.

Thanks
