Stupendous 6s Round 1 Fight 25

Ted Lowry vs. Joe Baksi – Tiger Ted looked more like a little puddy-cat, losing the 2nd, 13-4, Baksi belting him with crosses, after possibly dropping the 1st, 8-7. Ted won a scintillating 3rd, 4-0, Joe showing his mastery of the clinch! Ted tapped his was to a rousing 6-4 4th! Oh, the fan excitement!

Baksi landed a big hook that may have won him the 5th, 8-7. Lowry survived a savage left in the 6th, landing crosses and combinations to tap out a 9-6 advantage! He looked good in the 7th, landing a series of combinations, ruling the last minute to triumph, 12-8. He had what looked to be a nice lead.

They fought a spirited 8th. Lowry was more active, slipping crosses and combinations home. Baksi fired a sharp hook to the midsection, later a searing straight right, and sealed the round with a bazooka hook at the end, 15-11. Dead-tired, he belted Ted with a combination to start the 9th, then caught him with a straight right! He landed some hooks and missed on a lot, but ruled, 12-4.

Lowry came out covering up in the 10th, and evaded all of Baksi’s bombs, landing some crisp counters to pull out this crucial round, 8-2. I had Lowry winning, 97-96. The judges all scored it 96-94, for, the winner by a unanimous decision,…Ted Lowry!
