Free agents accepting highest bid...

Joe Mauer is a free agent. His demand is a 5 year contract with a yearly salary at 23.5m.

Seven teams have bid. The team that Mauer favors offered him a one year deal for 29.5 million. Other teams have offered around his 5 year 23.5m demand.

His loyalty rating is 7 (on a 2-8 scale). His desire for a winner rating is 8. The leading bidder (again, 1yr 29.5m) lost over 90 games in the previous season. They had made the playoffs the year before.

Two of the teams bidding near his demands are playoff contenders.

Why is Mauer even considering that 1 year offer? It's a matter of a few million dollars more over 1 season. If he accepts the long term contracts, like he's asking for, he's in line for at least 75m more.
