Referee Schmidt ultimately held the key in this scrap. He deducted two points for low blows from the home fighter.
Kane appeared to hold the upper hand from the outset. He enjoyed his best moment of the fight in the third round, when after a savage flurry of body punches Skena was forced to the ropes.
Skena had his moments but Kane had much the better of the first half of the fight which forced the Frenchman onto the offensive.
Without the foul deductions Skena would have prevailed which would have been an injustice.
