· With his home country fans chanting “ROCKY! ROCKY! Throughout the fight, Graciano Rocchigiani put on a dominating display of fistic talent. The German fought like a tenacious bulldog and never allowed his Argentinean counterpart a moments rest. By the start of round 4 Matteoni’s arms had dropped to protect his reddening body. Rocchigiani scored a flash knockdown in round 4, which foreshadowed what was on route.
· Matteoni went down hard in rounds 5 and 8, but displayed plenty of heart and fought back upon rising.
· Final punches landed numbers provided further evidence of Rocchigiani’s dominance 348 to 140. The 3 judges, all had it for Rocchigiani: 99-88, 99-88, and 99-89.
· Next for the German will be fight with Leeonzer Barber for the WBO title.
