The 2009 Cleveland Browns are, without a doubt, the worst football team I have seen in my lifetime. I think 0-16 is a real possibility, as well as marks for offensive futility in a 16 (even 14) game season.
Granted he has no QB, no running game, no receivers and no defense, but I think Randy Lerner would be wise to simply abort the Mangini era as soon as he possibly can. We know no self-respecting free agent is ever going to come to Cleveland except for outrageous money. But with Mangini's iron man approach and uninspiring coaching style, I don't think you'd even lure guys with moolah. I just don't think players want "to play" for Mangenius.
Bottom line: this team needs gutted, needs gutted immediately, and I honestly don't think Eric Mangini is the guy to head up a rebuilding effort of such magnitude.
I had doubts. I wanted to believe it was a decent hire, but I'm now fully confident that it was a terrible one. I doubt they could have lured Marty back given that, at his age, he'd probably only buy into a job that could get the Super Bowl monkey off his back, but I guarandamntee you that this Browns squad would be a lot more competetive on the virtue of simple fundamentals (and because I think Marty knows how to get his players on the bandwagon) than this pathetic band of losers is right now.
Heck, I think they could have gone with a virtually inexperienced unknown and gotten better than what Mangini has pulled out of the box. You can only blame the coach so much, but I think he was a screw-up from day one. Admit the mistake, Lerner. Move on. 2009 is a wash. At least make it a productive one by taking the one step this team has to take before it can ever move forward.
Yes. Worst I've ever seen. It is only three games in, but I don't see much of any hope for improvement.
Please prove me wrong, Mangini and Co. Please!
