Walcott Retires

PBR news: November 27, 1905 - 13th ranked welterweight, Joe Walcott, of Barbados, has announced his retirement. The announcement came after yesterday’s 7th round knockout loss to Tom Couhig, ranked #12 in the welterweight division.

Known as the “Barbados Demon,” Walcott is 32 years old. He never fought for the championship in the PBR, although he was ranked as high as #3. He lost his last three fights.

Real stuff - courtesy of the internet:

Walcott was a short, squat fighter with long arms and an extremely powerful punch. He was also quick and durable; he was one of the greatest "pound for pound" fighters in boxing history and fought men weighing from lightweight to heavyweight during his career.

Both Nat Fleischer and Charley Rose ranked Walcott as the #1 All-Time Welterweight; other sports personalities such as Tad Dorgan, Tom O’Rourke, Dan Morgan and Jimmy Johnston had called Joe “the greatest pound for pound fighter who ever lived;” he was elected to the Ring Boxing Hall of Fame in 1955 and the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 1991.
