Hi Binkyboy.
Myself, I'm on OOTP9. My advice, if you're new to this, is to use Search to find answers specific to your OOTP8. You can pretty much get 95% of your answers that way, as once upon a time everyone here ran into issues you are about to. Believe me, virtually everything got discussed in a few threads.
The forums for old versions aren't busy anymore after a new version comes out. You can wait a while before getting an answer. If you REALLY get stuck, PM a mod, or ask the question in the OOTP10 forum if it seems that it is something common to both versions.
