October 18, 2008
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — The Tampa Bay Devil Rays used the long ball to win Game 2 of the World Series, picking up a 13-2 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Los Angeles pitcher Carlos Silva gave up four of the five home runs, allowing seven runs on nine hits in 4 1/3 innings. Reliever Frank Francisco gave up the other home run, and surrendered four runs in just one inning.
Alexis Gomez, Aubrey Huff, Josh Hamilton, and Matt Holliday each homered off Silva while Russell Martin went deep off Francisco. Holliday and Martin had three-run homers, Hamilton a two-run shot, and solo home runs were hit by Huff and Gomez.
Martin was 4-for-5 with three RBI and four runs scored, and every player in the lineup except Jeff Francoeur had at least one hit, with six Devil Rays having multiple hits.
Pedro Martinez was the benefactor for Tampa Bay, giving up two runs, one earned, on six hits and two walks in eight innings. He struck out nine to improve to 3-0 with a 2.53 ERA this post-season.
